On The Modern Chinese Construction "V+ge+NP"

This thesis focuses on the Modern Chinese construction "V+ge+NP" in which"ge" gains more grammar functions and meanings than the other ordinary classifiers.The discussion includes the syntactic and semantic features of the construction,the co-occurrence situation of the construction and other sentence constituents,the special swear words of "V+ge+NP".The thesis consists of six chapters:Chapter 1 is the introduction of the thesis.It introduces the construction"V+ge+NP" and the value of researching it.It gives a review and a summary of the research in history and points out the existing problems and the important parts in the further researches.It also introduces the ideas and methods of this thesis.Finally,it points out the source of the corpus.Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 give a comprehensive analysis of the construction"V+ge+NP",including its syntactic and semantic characteristics.The syntactic analysis includes the feature of the whole construction and its constituents.The semantic analysis includes the referential meaning and semantic role of NP.It also includes the event-ness,tense-aspect meaning and quantitative meaning of the whole construction.Our goal is to give a revision and supplements to previous researches.Chapter 4 gives an analysis on the co-occurrence situation of the construction and other sentence constituents,including aspect markers,modal verbs,the modifiers before N and after V and the word "yi".We try to find the licensing conditions of the co-occurrence situations and the deep reasons of the compatible and exclusive situations.Chapter 5 is the study on the swear words "V+ge+NP " which is a special case of the construction.We discuss its constituents including V and NP,the changes of its form inculding extended and simplified ones.Finally,we analyse its semantic and pragmatic characteristics.Chapter 6 is the summary of the whole thesis which gives the main contents and conclusions of the thesis.
