A Comparative Study On Lexical Cohesive Devices In Business News Of China Daily And Business Week

China Daily and Business Week both exert a widely spread influence on the whole world and cover certain sections of business news.The thesis intends to select certain amounts of business news as research subject and to make a thorough research and analysis on the lexical cohesive devices in these business news.Mainly based on the cohesion theory of Halliday,Hasan and other scholars from home and abroad,this thesis extracts business news from(China Daily and Business Week as research subjects and will make a comparative analysis on the use of lexical cohesive devices.The author firstly selects 30 pieces of business news respectively from China Daily and Business Week as research subjects,and then runs Antconc to calculate the frequencies of different kinds of lexical cohesive devices in the selected 60 pieces of business news.Next,with the help of SPSS,the thesis tries to prove whether there is a significant difference in the use of lexical cohesive devices of the business news in China Daily and Business Week,and therefore makes a preliminary exploration to the possible reasons for these differences.Through the calculation and comparative analysis on the distribution and frequencies of six lexical cohesive devices in 60 business news from China Daily and Business News,the following conclusions can be made:On one hand,the frequencies of reiteration in business news of China Daily and Business Week bear no significant differences,which reflects the strict compliance of cohesive principle of the two media.On the other hand,in co-occurrence,the device of collocation in business news of China Daily is more frequently used than that of Business Week,which reflects the negative transfer of Chinese and demonstrates China Daily's emphasis on coherence in meaning and logic through the device of collocation.The results of the thesis can not only enable us to have a thorough understanding of the lexical cohesive devices in business news and enhance its readability,but also help researchers to make full use of cohesion theory to study business news effectively and precisely.
