Listening understanding is the primary problem to be solved during the interpreting activity. In order to work in an efficient way and improve the quality of interpretation, interpreters need to use some strategies to eliminate interference during the process of interpretation, such as using wireless navigation system to shield noise in outside. Using suprasegmental features to improve the interpreter’s listening comprehension can be one of the strategies.Suprasegmental features are prosodic features besides vowels and consonants, with stress, rhythm and intonation being the most important. They can be used to help people understand the speaker’s information, especially in discriminating the feelings and real intentions of the speaker. Therefore, mastering suprasegmental features is very important for improving the listening comprehension of interpreters. This thesis, taking 2014 Cameron’s speech of retaining Scotland as a case for analysis, studies the suprasegmental features of speech and its impact on interpreters’ listening comprehension so as to summarize some strategies and methods to help to improve interpreters’ listening comprehension by using suprasegmental features. The aim is to provide some reference and help for the interpretation of the site. This paper describes the suprasegmental features, and then explores the relationship between suprasegmental features and listening comprehension. Based on case analysis, it summarizes the methods of how to improve the listening comprehension, including paying attention to the stress and intonation, reconstructing rhythm group and allocating energy according to the changes of rhythm, to reduce the interference to interpreters’ listening comprehension, so as to improve the interpreter’s listening comprehension ability. |
