In recent years, along with the development of economic society, innovative technologies and new conceptions increasingly spring up, studies on terminology arise accordingly. Besides, the continuous development of Computer-aided Translation( CAT) helps promote the extensive use of CAT software like TRADOS, at the same time, the standardization of terminology collection and the termbase management become an urgent issue to tackle. However, the previous studies in this field are far from sufficient, and researches on terminology collection principles in CAT software are even fewer.Considering the above circumstances, the author explores the terminology collection problems in using TRADOS translation software on the basis of many scholars' theories and practice both at home and abroad. Taking TRADOS as an example of CAT software, the author attempts to answer the following question:Do the students follow the principles in recruiting terminology when using TRADOS? If the answer is not, what problems do they have in terminology collection when using TRADOS?To solve this research question, the author, after extensive reading of the relevant literature, summarized a set of relatively comprehensive and systematic terminology collection principles as the theoretical basis of this research paper. After soliciting the MTI students and some experts for their opinions, the author designed two questionnaires concerning terminology collection and investigated the problems the 62 MTI students have in terminology collection when using TRADOS. All of the 62 students were recruited by Chongqing University in years 2013 and 2014, who have completed the course learning of CAT translation and finished the translation assignments in TRADOS.The author completed the investigation through self-designed questionnaires 1 and 2 into the problems the subjects have in terminology collection when using TRADOS and, through combining the quantitative and qualitative research methods, came to the following conclusion:The students lacked knowledge on terms, terminology, as well as terminology collection so that they had difficulties in applying terminology collection rules into their terminology selecting practice when using TRADOS, and sometimes even to ok common words as terms. Finally, in terms of the problems the MTI students had in terminology collection in TRADOS, the author put forward some suggestions accordingly.
