Guo Mo-ruo(1892-1978) was born in Le Shan C ity, Si C huan Province. He is a famous Marxist historian, litterateur, archaeologist and one of the most famous four experts who research the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells of the Shang Dynasty. He is well versed in Chinese traditional culture. He has many representative works, as follows: Ten Criticisms,Study on Ancient Chinese Society, Bronze Age,studies on oracle bone scripture and so on. Ten Criticisms is a book that using Marxism to research the thoughts of Pre-Q in scholars. It focus on assessment and is completed during the Anti-Japanese War. In the academic circles, the study on Guo Mo-ruo concentrates on historical thoughts, ancient history periods, ancient social history and so on at present. Ten Criticisms is the magnum opus about researching the thoughts of Pre-Qin scholars of Guo Mo-ruo. It is written in the specific historical conditions. Therefore, it is very meaningful to make a further study of Ten Criticisms.This article mainly research the following several aspects of the Ten Criticisms: Firstly, through exploring the causes of writing Ten Criticisms and Guo Mo-ruo's own academic knowledge, this article recites the background of the writing. Secondly, by comparing the different versions of the Ten Criticisms to understand the change of Guo Mo-ruo's knowledge of the Pre-Q in scholars. Thirdly, centering on the details of Ten Criticisms to explore Guo Mo-ruo's study of the Pre-Q in scholars. Fourthly, upon the understanding of Ten Criticisms, I explore its ideological characteristics and academic style for further research. Fifthly, exploring the controversy that whether Guo Mo-ruo copies the book Chronicle of Pre-Qin scholars written by Q ian Mu or not. Sixthly, studying the significance and value of Ten Criticisms of modern historiography.This article centers around each chapter of Ten Criticisms. It studies the view of Guo Mo-ruo about the thoughts of Pre-Qin scholars comprehensively and synthetically and avoids the one-sidedness of isolated research. So that we can understand the value of Ten Criticisms comprehensively and objectively. In addition, by studying the plagiarism debate of Ten Criticisms, it illustrates that the contributions and limitation of scholars in academic research, inheritance and innovation in the period of Republic of C hina.
