English classroom communication has become an important way for engineering professionals classroom learning to improve English ability. For raising the efficiency of students' classroom involvement and teachers' teaching, providing experience for adult education, the thesis takes 132 engineering professionals as the research objects, studying the situation and affecting factors of the classroom involvement of the engineering professionals who study in Xi'An International Studies University through questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation for both teachers and students.The thesis discusses about the classroom involvement situation from two aspects, general situation and specific perspectives. The affecting factors are also discussed from two aspects, including intrnal and external factors. Conclusions are as follows: First of all, for overall classroom involvement, it is good, but some teachers has the habit of “right hand”, class questioning opportunities concentrate on the first team and the first row. Class structure is unreasonable. Class interaction mode shows the characteristics of “shortness” “pressing” “quickness”. Teachers tend to use instructions and training questions, ignoring affective factors and innovative guidance. For the perspective of the specific classroom involvement, emotional involvement>cognitive involvement>behavior involvement. Most students like English class and pay attention to learning method. They are attentive, but not active in behavior and show nervous emotion. Secondly, low English level, lack of confidence and so forth are the main internal factors affecting classroom involvement. Teachers' teaching level, both work and study and so forth are main external factors.Finally, the thesis comes up with several practical teaching suggestions from perspectives of teachers aiming at the current situation and the affecting factors, such as increasing the opportunities, constructing the class centered on the students, making innovative questionning, organizeing cooperative classroom involvement, laying the solid foundation and teaching students in accordance of their aptitude.
