A Report On The Translation Of The Politics Of Chinese Language And Culture

This thesis is a translation report on the chapter III, Writing and the ideological machine: Chinese characters and the construction of gender, coming from The Politics of Chinese Language and Culture. This report adopts the back translation strategy under Skopos theory, and succeeds in translating the Chinese culture written by foreigners back into Chinese, belonging to intracultural translation.This book provides a new channel to learn Chinese language, and know about Chinese culture and society by cultural research. The most difficult part of translating Sinology Works is how to achieve the double return of meaning and form, and successfully restore the culture-loaded words and cultural concepts. Meanwhile, the translator also needs to overcome the variation, misunderstanding, and misinterpretation to find out the cultural source, and bring back the national culture completely.From the point of Skopos theory, this thesis adopts back translation strategy for the culture-loaded words and cultural concepts. The translator also adopts the translation methods of literal and free translation, amplification and omitting, division and combination when it comes to specific sentences and words. During the translation process, the translator also meets some problems to be solved by using th e translation theory, and realizes that a good translator requires continuous learning, and the spirits chasing for excellence.
