Solfeggio Courses Improve Students' Capability

Recently, using solfeggio as a measure to help students to improve their capability of improvising is valued more and more by scholars and educational institution of musicology. As an essential course, solfeggio is practical, while improvisationis more creative; solfeggioconcretizes musical creation by singing and performing, while improvisation is based on strong musical theory and techniques.The main idea of this paper is to introduce and discuss how to use solfeggio to educate students. This paper will analyze from four perspectives: The first part is to review the history and theory of solfeggio, basing it on French solfeggio and how it influence the development of solfeggio in China. The second part is to discuss the development and application of improvisation: in this part, the paper follows the timeline of improvisation history in Europe,analyzes the performance of musical expression, and discuss choir essentials, analysis of music creation, and how application of polyphonic music will improve the improvisation. The third part is to discuss how to cultivate the capability of improvisation of students using solfeggio. This is the key point of the paper, and this paper researched the solfeggio course and its fundamental theory of musicology. We introduce four different methods to introduce how to cultivate the capability of improvisation: tempo based training, tempo clips based training, tone and tempo based training,rhythm based training. The last part is to introduce how to cultivate the capability of piano improvisation in solfeggio course.From the discussion of this paper, we can conclude that solfeggio is very practical for educating students' capability of improvisation. Based on solfeggio course, we can build the sense of musical expression, the appreciation of music, the theoretical knowledge of musicology, and the capability of analyzing music. All above can be combined together to improve ones' capability of improvisation. It will be valued more and more of capability of music creation, and thus it is necessary to cultivate improvisation. It will soon become a trend to use solfeggio to cultivate the capability of improvisation, because of its practicality and professionality.
