This report is a description of my translation project of Chapter 5 (From Painting to Film) from an aesthetic and artistic work Philosophy of the Arts:An Introduction to Aesthetics. I first spent months analyzed the features of the source texts before I started my actual translating work. I kept consulting the parallel texts of the same content when I came across the problems which I thought my predecessor might have already solved. Under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory. I finally put forward some translation strategies which were suitable for rendering the materials of the identical kind. This report consists of four parts:Part One is an introduction to the background of this activity; Part Two is a brief account of Newmark's communicative translation theory and its pragmatic values to this project; Part Three is devoted to the analysis of the source textual features and their translations; Part Four serves as the summary of what I have learnt from this practice.
