The Analysis Of The Conflict Talk Between Mothers And Daughters-in-law In Cold Night

Conflict talk is a common and complicated linguistic phenomenon in our life,means the battle of words between the two sides for opposite view or dislike each other's words and actions.Conflict talk between mothers and daughters-in-law has its particularity.There are serious conflicts in novel cold night,the phenomena of impoliteness are abundant,the response for conflict talk of mothers and daughters-in-law is also diversification.This study is the first to use the theory of conversation analysis and impoliteness of Culpeper as a guide,to analyze the impolite strategies and responses in the process of conflict between mothers and daughters-in-law,in order to make up for deficiencies in pragmatic research of conflicts between mothers and daughters-in-law.This paper is divided into six parts: the introduction part introduces the background and the significance of the topic,the current research status of conflict talk and the research scope and methods of this paper.The second part is the theoretical framework of this paper,first to definite the definition of conflict talk,secondly introduces the conversation analysis theory and Culpeper's politeness theory.The third part focuses on the analysis of the operation process of conflict talk between mothers and daughters-in-law in the novel.First,this part describes the embodiment of Culpeper of five kinds of politeness strategies and four kinds of impolite response patterns in the corpus.Among them,"distorted facts" and "refusal to others kindness",the two positive politeness strategies are first discovered in this study.Study found that,in the novel mothers-in-law of politeness strategies more than daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law launched the conflict discourse,which showed a mothers-in-law in the communication between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law is more strong under normal circumstances.This paper also summarizes the way to the end of the conflicts,in novel cold night mainly daughters-in-law and concessions,dumb,one sides wins,the intervention of a third party,and the special situation,and the quantitative analysis found that "daughters-in-law concession" and "third party intervention" is the most common way to end mothers and daughters-in-law's conflicts in the novel,accounting for 31.3% and 37.5% respectively.In the fourth part,the author summarizes the factors and typical pragmatic characteristics of mothers and daughters-in-law's conflicts talk.This paper discusses the six causes that the mothers and daughters-in-law's conflicts,differences in age and cultural differences,love the sub plot,the living environment of the hardships,individual character,mediation of dereliction of duty and mother-in-law lack of mutual respect and understanding,in which they interact with each other,contributed to the occurrence of conflict talk.The typical pragmatic characteristics include bidirectional,against,very offensive,the contradiction between accumulation and mother-in-law conflict discourse priority.Among them,the contradiction accumulation is the first discovered in this research.The fifth part mainly discussed how to avoid communicative principle of mothers and daughters in law's conflicts,including attitude principle,politeness principle,mutual respect principle and aesthetic principle.The conclusion part summarizes the overall conclusions and innovation points of the paper,and points out the deficiencies of this study.
