Mikhail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov(1905-1984)is one of the most outstanding representatives of Russian literature in the XX century. In 1965 Sholokhov won the Nobel Prize. He also was Stalin Prize winner,Hero of Socialist Labor. In the life and struggle of the Don's Cossacks, writer saw the history of the people passing through the crucible of the revolution and civil war. When first published, his early works The tales of the Don received a number of positive reviews,in the forties appeared monographs about Sholokhov. In the collection with name of Mikhail Sholokhov, which released in 1940,were printed articles by renowned critics from different points of view, like ideological meanings, the using of Russian proverb in works of Sholokhov. At the same time on the basis of ideological and artistic features Lezhnyov,V.Gura led to the conclusion that The tales of the Don is the "prehistory" of Quiet Flows the Don.After World War ? there were many researchers studied Sholokhov's works, like Yanchenko,Chalmaev,Vasiliev,Kuznetsov,Yermolaev,Dvoryashina and others, but mainly focused on writer's other novels.Another critic Yakymenko also studied from ideological and artistic levels of writer's short stories from earlier times, but he thought that The tales of the Don of Sholokhov have the special characters. In the eighties and nineties put forward were interesting reflections in the article by S.Semenova:The tales of the Don:from poetics to the worldview,in which from these points of view in short stories of Sholokhov:tragic, heroism, plot and stylistic features studied The tales of the Don.In China the study of Sholokhov started very early, many researchers, there were many monographs, but basically focused on the analysis of the novel, especially Quiet Flows the Don,only found few systematic analysis about the short stories. Therefore this paper uses linguistics, rhetoric and narrative theories,on the basis of texts of short stories makes comprehensive analysis of early short stories Sholokhov unique and distinctive artistic qualities. This thesis mainly studies the artistic originality of The tales of the Donby Mikhail Sholokhov. There are three chapters apart from the introduction and conclusion. The introduction includes the topic, purpose and objectives of this study, shows the novelty of the work, and has a brief biography of Mikhail Sholokhov and his early works. The first chapter analyzes language features in The tales of the Don:dialect in the Don's region, new words and modifiers. In the novels the most obvious feature is the dialect of Don.Dialect certainly impacts on all the Cossacks. In addition, the war in early 20-th century affected the language level,so we analyzed the new words between Cossacks's group, the reasons of those words and its roles.Another important feature is the verbal modifiers. In the second chapter we pay attention on stylistic characters in The tales of the Don:anthropomorphic, analogy and metaphor, contrast.Anthropomorphism is very common in the early short stories of Sholokhov,it allows abstract things concrete,Metaphor is noteworthy in The tales of the Don,there are many successful title of novels as example for metaphor.Another familiar literary device is contrast. The third chapter is about the originality of narrative methods in the early novels of Mikhail Sholokhov. The writer pays great attention to narration from the first and third person.Simultaneously there is a particular way of narration:unity the speech of author with speech of characters. The conclusion summarizes the overall results of this study. In book The tales of the Don Sholokhov draws people's struggle for Soviet power as an extraordinarily complex process. And we cannot close eyes to artistic originality,or think The tales of the Don just as "previous history" of And Quiet Flows the Don.It makes researchers more thoroughly explore the origins of the writer's work.
