As the primary problem which each body in life will encounter, growth is the object which the writers are keen to explore. This paper excavates the distress and perplexity in Xu Zechen's novels from perspective of growth.The introduction part restores the concept of growth novel of western literature firsitly, exhibits the definition of representative theorists. What is more, this part focuses on the traditional Chinese narrative literature. Then it summarizes the history of the promotion and criticism of the growth novels in China. This paper briefly introduces the writing process of Xu Zechen, and the summary of previous studies on the writer. In conclusion,bildungsroman as well as initiation theme has great prospects for research, and Xu Zechen's does have a consistent concern about growth is worth study.There are three parts of the paper:The first chapter analyzes Xu Zechen's perception of the growth from the perspective of children, and the different influence of father's image on the growth of the "sub generation". The second chapter discusses different attitudes of characters about dream, they experience rites of initiation in growth process. The third chapter analysizes the temptation of " go the distance ", meanwhile, brings forward “Beijing drift” as a specific example to observe the growth process. Epilogue summarizes the main content of the paper, and puts forward the development of the author and the hero of the novel as a mirror.
