Abstract/Summary:
Gaard believes that there is a very close connection between the domination of human to nature and man to women, thus ecological thoughts combine with feminist ideas inevitably. However, just as the name implies, ecofeminism not only deals the problems of feminism and environmentalism, or about women and nature, but also discusses the problems of environmental degradation and social injustice. The way we treat nature and the way we treat each other are inseparably related. What ecofeminism pursues and advocates is a cultural democracy, ecological democracy, economic democracy as well as a form of the justice of social relations. Ecofeminism should be extended to a higher level, that is to say, it should take universal ethnic care to nature, women, ethnic groups, homosexual groups and other vulnerable groups. The consistency of oppression and domination to those disadvantaged groups makes them seek the relationship between each other and make a common goal of decentralization to achieve a real liberation. This thesis mainly makes a deep and detailed analysis about Gaard’s work, The Nature of Home, in combination with other literary works, discussing and studying her ecofeminist theory from the perspective of environmental justice and social justice, thus reviewing her contributions to the modern theory of ecofeminism, which is a help to the practice of criticism theory. At the same time, this thesis is hoped to provide a way to learn and understand Gaard and to better understand her broad and profound ecological thoughts contained in her works.
