A Study Of Xu Ao's Tong Jiu Ji

Tong Jiu Ji,compiled by Xu Ao who was a Jinshi of Jiaqing nineteen years(1814),is the most complete poetry collection of Tongcheng school with large time span and complicated content,which is of great significance as historical documents and literary historical materials.But it has not been widely spread after compilation for its twists of fate.Therefore,little attention has been paid to Tong Jiu Ji.It has been much less researched by previous scholars,only mentioned with a few words in relevant articles at most.This thesis study Xu Ao's Tong Jiu Ji through the life and ideology of the author,the compiling situation and features,literature and poetics thought etc.The thesis consists of three parts.The introduction part mainly introduces the research status of Xu Ao's Tong Jiu Ji,as well as the content and significance of this research.The main body of this thesis consists of three chapters.The first chapter introduces the overview of Xu Ao,including his life and thought;then investigates the compiling situation,compiling purpose and version of Tong Jiu Ji.At last analyzes the overall compiling features of Tong Jiu Ji,including styles,works selection,profiles and comments etc.The second chapter elaborates the poetics thought of Xu Ao,mainly involves three aspects: one is that the purport of poetry is to express temperament and elegance;the second is Tang poetry oriented and Du Fu is highly praised;the third is the compatibility of Tang poetry and song poetry,not stick to one pattern.The three aspects are discussed combining with the historical background,education of Xu Ao and the specific content of Tong Jiu Ji.The third chapter analyze the literature of Tong Jiu Ji,focusing on textual research and arguments on relevant literature cited in Tong Jiu Ji,including textual study of wrong collection poetry and variant characters.In the conclusion part,the main point of this thesis is generalized,and the deficiencies of this study are summarized.
