A Report On The Translation Of Chapters 6 Of The Sociolinguistics Of Language

The thesis is an English-Chinese translation report.The original text is an excerpt from Chapter 6from The Sociolinguistics of Language.It is an academic book about heated themes in sociolinguistics,which consists of some knowledge and terms in this field unfamiliar to me,the translator.This report systematically introduces the translation process,and focuses on summarizing the methods,strategies,the translator's thoughts as well as the problems in the course of the translation.The original text is an informative text according to text typology,so the target text should be exact and faithful.On the basis of Skopos theory,different translation strategies such as conversion,amplification and omission are applied to solve problems in the translation of terms,difficult words and sentences.The project provides the translator with a good opportunity to learn pragmatics systematically and to improve her translation capability.Through this translation practice,the translator keenly realizes that translation is in no sense an easy thing,therefore more efforts should be made in the future.
