The first chapter gives an overall summary of the women in Liu Zhenyun's works, dividing the female images into three categories: Ms Li Ailian represents the wretched traditional women; Ms Wu Yue represents the awakened modern women; Ms Li Xuelian is the real image of the women struggling at the bottom of the current society.Through describing the changes of female images and comparing the images in his works and in those of Fang Fang, Yan Lianke, etc, the second chapter concludes that Liu Zhenyun shows “care for women's fate” while depicting the images. He once paid little attention to the fate of women before gradually keeping a watchful eye on them, and finally, in the peak of his creation, launched the first work with clear female consciousness—I am not Madame Bovary. Each female image shaped by him is different from those of other contemporary writers and attached with his unique label. We see the author is recognizing women and approving of feminist efforts. His female consciousness, which differs from that in the western theory, aboriginally derives from the observation of women status in life and is thus called as “care for women's fate”.The third chapter discusses the significance of Liu Zhenyun's female images in terms of contemporary literature history and culture. The images portrayed in Liu's novels have enriched the female ones in contemporary literature, which bears practical, ironical as well as aesthetic meaning. With deep cultural implications, his novels consist of diverse cultures. The combination of traditional and modern culture contributes to Liu's writing style; the interaction of Chinese and foreign culture produces new perspective; the convergence of literature, film and television ignites the spark of screen culture. The conclusion part argues that Liu Zhenyun will continue observing and caring about the fate and liberation of women.
