Peng Yuanrui's Chronological Of Academic Activities

Peng Yuanrui is one of the most celebrated officials in Qianlong Dynasty who has served successively as four ministers to vice-scholar and occupys an important position. He is knowledgable, also he is good at identifying antiquities, painting and calligraphy works. Hence, he is appointed as the vice president of Santong Pavilion, Burrau of National History, Sikuquanshu Pavilion, Shijing Pavilion, Huidian Pavilion, the president of the Hall of Martial Valor and Record Hall so he has been involved in editing many official books and plays an important role in these books. This makes him a high reputation in the Qianlong and Jiaqing period. Moreover, he works several times as the interviewers of Imperial Examination and Metropolitan Examination, the chief of Hanlinyuan and the tutor of Hanlin bachelor and develops large numbers of juniors.Meanwhile, he is a academician who makes friends with those who have a literary reputation like Ji Yun, Zhu Gui, Zhao Yi, Jiang Shiquan, Liu Fenggao, Zhao Huaiyu and so on. Peng participes in and organizes many academic activities and he is accomplished in academics. Firstly, he is a famous philogist who has great attainments in bibliography, colophon and textual criticism. A book named Seven hundred famous people in the Qing Dynasty thinks he is an expert in Pu learning at that time. He is proficient in both classical studies and historical studies. His books like Shijingkaowentiyao, Wudaishijizhu, Fuhuiquanshu, etc. are down to now. Besides, he is an expert of parallel prose and couplet. His couplets have been applauded by lots of people from Qianlong Emperor to academic circle.This paper is divided into three parts: Part One is the exordium, Part Two is the text, Part Three is the appendix. To make a chronological of Peng Yuanrui's academic activities, except reading his own books, this paper combined with the orginal biography in History of the Qing Dynasty and the relative records in his teachers, students and friends. In addition, this paper refers to the historical background and focuses on his academic contribution to try to reappear his official career, friends and literature adventures, even to comprehend the political environment, social trends and evolution of social thoughts in that age.
