Report On English Translation Of Classical Chinese In Publicity Materials Of China Daily

The source texts of this translation report were the publicity materials from China Daily Hunan Bureau, which is one of the practice bases of Foreign Language College, Hunan University. With the strong translation ability, China Daily Hunan Bureau assumed the maintenance work of the bilingual portals of Hunan provincial department of culture and Xiangxiang city. I was fortunately enough to be an internship there for three months, so I had access to these materials. My translation ability improved a lot with the help of my supervisor in school and my supervisor in the practice base.There were some classical Chinese sentences in the part of introducing Hunan modern literature. The sentences were used to introduce and appraise some historical figures, which were difficult and important points in my translation. The translation of classical Chinese is very important in inheriting and promoting Chinese culture. Therefore, I paid my attention to the translation of classical Chinese in this report.This report made an overall introduction from the following aspects:the background of the source text, the translation process, case analysis and conclusion. The report first introduced the background knowledge of the source text and then introduced the translation process in a detailed way with some examples. At last, the report analyzed the methods of achieving accuracy and readability in the translated version. To achieve accuracy, I adopted the methods of finding equivalent expressions, transliteration, adding notes. To achieve readability, I adopted the methods of free translation, omission of redundant words and restructuring sentences. With the help of classical Chinese dictionary, parallel texts, famous examples and professors'suggestion, I selected many examples to clarify the direction and practicability of my translation in order to give some references to the following translators.
