During his whole life Henri Vieuxtemps had composed more than sixty violin concertos, which are written in concert style with beautiful melodies and exquisite workmanship. The most accomplished and distinguished works were the seven violin concertos, which are classified as virtuoso faction represented by Berio, Wieniawski and Paganini in the playing skills but better than the Paganini Concertos in musical instruments configuration. He merged the advantages of the classical and romantic music camp, is a outstanding representative of French-Belgian school. Nowadays, the domestic academic’s research on Vieuxtemps’works and music style is still relatively scarce, this article intends to make a depth study and discussion on Concerto No.4 in D minor for violin and orchestra, Op.31, one of the masterpieces of Henri Vieuxtemps.With respect to modern times, violin music exists limitations and shortcomings in intensity signs, mood tags, digital scales, virtuoso playing in the romantic period, what lead to the each school’s different ideas and opinions to this violin concerto in analysis, performances, understanding and inheritance.
