Translation is increasingly important with the quick development of globalization. The researches on translation have drawn great attention. Since the 1970 s, the emphasis of the researches on language teaching shifts from the researches on how teachers “teach” to the researches on how students “learn”.Therefore, the researchers attach great importance to language learning strategies against this background. The study of English learning strategies has been an explorative research subject and researchers have achieved abundant research results. Since translation and interpreting is a newly-developing major, the study of translation learning strategies has been a new subject in the theoretical studies. With the development of the scientific and systematic translation teaching, the study of translation learning strategies has arisen attention among researchers. The thesis aims to investigate the use level of translation learning strategies of the translation majors in the same grade and among the different grades with the questionnaire method, interview method and case study. The results are discussed from the perspectives of the theory of translation learning strategies and translation competence. Based on the findings in this study, some suggestions on translation teaching in this sample university are put forward. The thesis consists of three parts. In the first part is the literature on language learning strategies and translation learning strategies. The second part is empirical study on the use level of the translation learning strategies of the translation majors. The data is analyzed by SPSS and the results are analyzed from the theoretical perspectives. The third part is conclusion. The major findings are listed as follows.(1) In general, the use level of the translation learning strategies of the translation majors in the sample university is not high in the same grade and among the different grades.(2) There are significant differences in the use level of the sub-category of translation learning strategies. The strategies on higher use level are: transfer, resourcing, comparing, comprehension, expression and language competence improvement while the strategy on lower use level is self-management.(3) The use level of translation learning strategies shows consistency in the same grade.(4) The study finds a positive correlation between the use level of translation learning strategies and the students' grades, the higher grades the students are, the higher the use level of translation learning strategies is.The factors that influence the use of translation learning strategies could be various and the major factors are the lack of opportunities for translation practice in the teaching environment, the weakawareness of the teachers on the significance of the translation learning strategies and the students' low motivation as well as individual learning styles. Therefore more improvements would be made if a greater number of real projects and translation learning strategies are integrated into the teaching and more chances of internship are offered to the students.
