The Study Of Strength Concept’s Expression And Cognition Of Modern Chinese

The strength concept was cognized by people very early,and expressions of strength concept are varied.Strength concept can also be called strength category.Concept and category are important ways in human cognitive world.The expressions and cognitive semantic characteristics of category are important in the studies of linguistics.To be honest,strength concept should be closely associated with quantity category among so many categories such as time category,space category and number category.But after our inspection,we find that strength concept is different from quantity category actually.Previous studies on quantity category were different.Some of the studies in the past were focus on expressions like "number+quantifiers+noun",some were focus on the part of the speech,and the other were focus on the cognition.However,we cannot find a research which put forward"strength" as a concept category among so many studies of quantity category.This situation makes the expressions and cognitive semantic features of strength concept are not clear enough.In this paper,we study strength concept from two aspects:language expressions and cognitive semantics.This paper is based on the closely relationship between strength concept and relevant category.We will present the expressions and cognitive semantic features of strength concept in modern Chinese.The first chapter defines the connotation of the strength concept.In this paper,the study of strength concept is from the perspective of semantic category.At the same time,this paper will combine the related theory of cognitive semantics to analyze strength concept.Strength concept refers to the physical strength and ability of individual or group which can be measured,and physical force in the natural sciences.The second chapter examines the expression of strength concept in detail.In this paper,there are two words that can reflect on the meaning of strength concept:力 and劲(儿).So in the concrete analysis of the expressions of strength concept,we will call the expressions which has the words "力" or "劲(儿)"and could show the characteristics of strength as the dominant strength expressions.On the contrary,we will call he expressions which does not appear the words "力" or "劲(儿)" but also show the characteristics of strength through language structure as the recessive power expression.The third chapter investigate the cognitive features of strength concept from the perspective of cognitive semantics.This part summarizes the expression of strength concept which is based on the relations between strength concept and relevant semantic category.At the same time,this part will study cognitive semantics of strength concept.There is a connection between strength concept and different categories,due to this reason,this paper mainly analyzes cognitive semantics of strength concept from the relations between strength concept and quantity category,strength concept and degree category,strength concept and life category,and strength concept and cognitive metaphor.In general,strength is proportional to number and weight.In certain expressions,strength that measure adjectives represents is proportional to what it is.In negative expressions,this is not right.The higher degree of degree adverbs shows strength concept,the greater the quantity of strength concept is.On the contrary,the lower degree of degree adverbs shows strength concept,the less the quantity of strength concept is.Whether a thing has a life or not,it could express strength concept,but strength is not proportional to life.Because strength concept has the characteristics of abstraction,so metaphor expression of strength concept will become a universal phenomenon,and which is mostly entity metaphor expression.
