After several centuries of development and improvement, American Tort Law has been made itself unique and characterized by strong vigor and the spirit of modern society. This report is based on the translation text of Tort Law in A Nutshell published by Beijing Law Press. In this report, in view of the problems encountered during the translation, the author adopts such translation methods as transliteration, free translation and translation techniques as liner translation, inverse translation, division translation and multiple translation to solve these problems according to the three principles of Skopos Theory presented by Hans Vermeer.This translation report consists of five chapters. Chapter One mainly introduces the background and significance of the translation project as well as the structure of this report. Chapter Two briefly presents the characteristics of the source text, and analyzes the difficulties encountered in this translation project. Chapter Three mainly introduce the theoretical foundation of this translation project, Skopos theory and the “three principles” of Skopos theory. Chapter Four is about how to deal with the difficulties of legal terms, long sentences and text style during translation, and illustrates them with examples. Chapter Five concludes the experiences and lessons of this translation project.
