The source text of this translation project is the first three sections of chapter 14 of the book the Motor Car: Past, Present and Future, and the chief editor of this book is Frederick F. Ling. The main content of chapter 14 is to discuss energy and environment issues of motor cars. Different types of motor cars like battery electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles are introduced. And then, non-conventional fuels are discussed. The main content of this report can be divided into four chapters. Chapter One is an introduction, including the description of the translation project, objectives of the translation report, significance of the translation project and the structure of the translation report. Chapter Two is an introduction to the source text, including the introduction to the author, the publishing facts of the source book, the main content of the source text and the analysis of the source text. Chapter Three includes the theoretical basis applied during the translation process, translation difficulties and corresponding translation techniques. Translation of many terminologies in the science field and long and complicated sentences are the most difficult part of the project. Therefore, literal translation, addition, omission, synthesization and division are mainly used as translation techniques. And Chapter Four is a conclusion to the experience learned in the translation process and the problems to be solved.
