This is a translation project report of Big Data and Analytics: Strategic and Organizational Impacts(Chapter 2 “Big Data and Analytics for Government Innovation”) by Vincenzo Morabito who is an associate professor at the Management & Technology Department, Bocconi University, Milan, Italy. Chapter 2 discusses the transformation of the public service provision model due to big data, and in particular due to public engagement in the context of open government initiatives. The text type of the source text can be seen as informative text. Therefore, the translator takes the Nida's functional equivalence as the guiding theory. From the perspective of Nida, the relationship between receptor and message should be substantially the same as that which existed between the original receptors and the message(Nida 1964). The translator needs to tailor the message to meet the receptor's linguistic needs and cultural expectation. Thus to complete naturalness of expressions and try to make the target readers understand easily are the objectives. The translator hopes that this report will provide a reference for the study and practice of IT text translation.
