| Presented is a translation report on the book “Striving for Better Jobs—The Challenge of Informality in the Middle East and North Africa”(Chapter 5) which was released in the year of 2014. It is an academic paper that focuses on the situation of informality in MENA. As a novice in translation, working on this report serves to lay a solid foundation for better writing and reading skills as well as translating ability. Translation is a channel which spread fine culture. It is the translator’s goal to take advantage of all the information available and refine its target language. The report was written by the faculty of World Bank Press in a concise and informative manner and was accompanied by precise graphic and data analysis. The report aims at presenting institutional barriers and the low productivity trap which have a negative effect on formality. Methods such as improving the business climate, adjusting labor market regulation as well as setting up minimum wages were proposed in the report. My report is undertaken with the guidance of functional equivalence theory and the translation difficulties therein were solved by relevant translation methods to make the target text more reader-oriented. This report consists of five parts: First, a brief introduction of background and structure of the translation report; Second, a brief introduction of the background of the source text and its language structure; Third, a introduction of theoretical analysis and application in the translation process as well as the translating methods used and difficulties encountered therein; Fourth, experience gained from translation practice. |
