Objective: To evaluate the mental health status and personality characteristics of children with vasovagal syncope(VVS)and to further explore the psychological effects of syncope on children through Symptom Check lists-90(SCL-90)and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).Methods:42 children with vasovagal syncope who were admitted to the Paediatric Outpatient Clinic and Pediatric Cardiology Department of the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University from 2016 to 2017 were selected. All included children were excluded from other systemic diseases that cause pre-syncope or syncope, and were confirmed by an upright test or head-up tilt table test(HUT).According to clinical symptoms, the children were divided into syncope group(n=25)and nonsyncope group(n=17).In the syncope group,25 children with vasovagal syncope who had a syncope event were divided into an occasional syncope group(n=9)and a recurrent syncope group(n=16)based on the frequency of syncope events in the patient's medical history.Compare the psychological status and personality characteristics of children with vasovagal syncope were compared between syncope and non-syncope,occasional syncope, and repeated syncope children. At the same time,101 healthy children from the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University were selected as normal controls. The psychological status and personality characteristics of 42 children with VVS and normal children were compared. All questionnaire data was input into the Shanghai Hui cheng Psychological Test Software System for scoring.Statistical software SPSS22.0 was used for data analysis.Results:(1)Of the 42 children enrolled in the study, the hemodynamic patterns were mainly vascular inhibition type(71.43%,30/42 cases),followed by mixed type 19.05%(8/42 cases),cardiac suppression type 9.52%(4/42 cases).(2)The main psychiatric symptoms and incidence of 42 children with vasovagal syncope: easily annoyed and agitated(56.3%,18cases);decreased energy(40.6%,13cases);poor appetite(53.1%,17cases);feeling depressed(37.5%,12cases);excessive anxiety(46.8%,15cases);difficult to sleep(43.8%,14cases);memory decline(14.3%,6cases);sleep is not deep(24.4%,11cases);feel a serious problem with his body(21.9%,7cases).In addition,50%(21 cases)worried about classmates ridicule?teachers criticized,19%(8 cases)unwilling or fear to go to school;28.6%(12 cases)diminished of interest in games or group activities.(3)The results of SCL-90 in children with vasovagal syncope: There were statistically significant differences of the syncope group in factors of somatization, anxiety, and hostility compared with the non-syncope group(P<0.05);There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in factors of obsessive-compulsive,interpersonal,depression,horror,paranoid,psychotic,and other items(P(29)0.05).Among them, there were statistically significant differences between the recurrent syncope group and the occasional syncope group in the factors of somatization, anxiety and other items(P<0.05);.However,the VVS children had statistically significant differences in factors of somatization, anxiety, compulsion, depression, psychoticism, and other items compared with normal control children(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the other 4 factors between the two groups(P(29)0.05).(4)The results of EPQ personality test in children with vasovagal syncope: There were no statistically significant differences in psychomotor, neuroticism, introversion, and camouflage in children with vasovagal syncope between the syncope group and the non-syncope group and between the two groups with the same sex,and in occasional syncope group and the recurrent syncope group and between the two groups and the same sex,as well as in the opposite sex of the children with vasovagal syncope(P(29)0.05).However,children with vasovagal syncope had statistically significant differences in psychoticism, neuroticism, and internal and external dimensions compared to normal control children(P<0.05).There was a statistically significant difference in the introversion dimension between female children with vasovagal syncope and normal control female children(P<0.05).There was a statistically significant difference in psychoticism between male children with vasovagal syncope and normal control male children(P<0.05).Conclusions:(1)Children with Vasovagal syncope often suffer from somatic symptoms such as dizziness, memory decline, poor appetite, poor quality of sleep. At the same time, there are psychological problems such as excessive worry, anxiety and so on,some children even have a tendency to depression.Especially children with repeated syncope events.(2)Vasovagal syncope can lead to negative development of children's personality, and then appear the personality characteristics such as loneliness, apathy, difficulty in adapting to the environment, emotional instability, irritability, and introversion.(3)Obviously,vasovagal syncope can lead to a certain degree of mental health problems in children, and even lead to changes in the personality of children, especially in children with repeated syncope attacks Psychological factors may play an important role in the occurrence, development, treatment and prognosis of children with Vasovagal syncope.
