Class III malocclusion is a common dentofacial deformity in clinics.It's classified into three types according to the pathogenesis and the degree of deformity:dental,functional and skeletal,all of which require different treatment.Early treatment is emphasized for class III malocclusion.For dental type,it's effective to use interceptive treatment in clinics such as biting,grinding,maxillary removable appliance.As for functional type,2X4 technics as well as orthopedic treatment such as FR-III functional appliance are also applied to ecorrect anterior crossbite in time.Early orthopedic treatment by using chincup and maxillary protraction with palatal expansion in skeletal class III subjects has been identified to simplify and enhance the following treatment.All types might require fixed orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery.It's the key point to figure out the limitation of orthodontics and the indication of surgery.The author summarized the pathogenesis,diagnosis and advanced treatment approaches of class III malocclusion in order to provide help in clinic.
