There are some research routes of the beginning of the visual process. The research route “Initial Feature Analysis" suggests that visual perception is a process of local property to global properties. The research route "Initial Global Perception" suggests that the processing of visual perception starts from perceiving global property of objects, and is a process of global property to local property.According to Chen Lin's "Global-first Topological Perception Theory",the perception of topological properties is the most basic and early perception compared with the perception of other local geometric properties like projection, affine,Euclidean geometry. And the perceptual of objects begin with the extraction of topological properties. At present, the nerve expression of the perception of topological properties lies in the left ATL(Anterior Temporal Lobe)was found through the study of FMRI(Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging)brain imaging. In the classical visual pathway,ATL is at the end of the classic visual ventral pathway, and is an advanced area of object recognition. However,a large number of FMRI experiments show that topological properties take precedence over local properties in sensitivity and response, and are processed in the early stages of visual perception. However, the results of brain imaging do not directly reflect the role of the left ATL in topological perception. Is it possible to determine the specific role of ATL in topological properties through other scientific and technological means and experimental methods?Through TMS(Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)technique, this thesis studied whether the ATL region is closely related to the topological property processing, and studied the latent period of topological processing of the ATL.In this thesis, three sets of four-quadrant topological texture identification experiments are designed, subjects were asked to respond to the target stimuli by pressing the buttons, and the accuracy and reaction time of the subjects were recorded.During the topological texture recognition task in the experiment I,subjects' ATL and CZ region were randomly stimulated for 11 time points through sTMS(single TMS).The results showed when the stimulation time is 50 ms and 117 ms,sTMS interfered with the topological properties detection of subjects' ATL.To deal with the weakness of less trials at each time point in the experiment I,reduced the number of sTMS stimulation time points to increase the number of trials at each time point to design experiment II.The results showed when the stimulation time is 34 ms,sTMS interfered with the reaction of ATL to topological property detection, this indicates that ATL may indeed be closely related to the topology property detection. But the specific trend of the experiment was not very consistent,we considered that the TMS effect was not strong, therefore, the TMS stimulation effect was enhanced in experiment III and IV.Experiment III and IV were topological texture recognition experiment based on the 10 HZ three pulse rTMS(repetive TMS).In experiment III and IV,the interference of rTMS on topological properties perception was not found,we considered that the "ceiling effect" that may be due to the simplicity of the task, and the inconsistencies in the judgment strategy. Therefore, experiment V and experiment VI were designed to increase the difficulty of experiment and improve the calculation methods of results. The interference effect of sTMS on the topological properties of ATL was discovered in 136 ms.Compared the data of TMS experiments, there was a lack of consistency from a single set of data. But at some time point(34ms,50 ms,117ms,136ms)the TMS stimulation did produced effects that interfered with ATL's detection of topological properties perception.Through observing the relation of the results of TMS experiments,it was found that the data results of ATL detecting topological property under different TMS stimulation time points had a similar change trend.Combined with the FMRI results of Chen Lin's team,it could be said that the ATL might be a region closely related to the perceptual processing of topological properties. As for the exact time of processing, further improvement was needed to confirm the experiments.
