Objective:The purposes of this study was to provide a simple, efficient and standardized therapy for superficial tuberculous lymphadenitis patients by observing the recent-term effect of Paris polyphylla Smith var.yunnanensis powder combined with anti-tuberculosis drugs in the treatment of superficial tuberculous lymphadenitis. Methods: According to the inclusion criteria,144 patients who met the criteria w ere divided into Yin group and Yang group by different symptoms. Each group includ ed 72 patients and was divided into two subgroups with the random number table: 36 i n the treatment group and 36 in the control group. All the patients were treated with Isoniazid,Rifampicin,Pyrazinamide and Ethambutol.Besides the four medications, the treatment group in the Yin group were treated externally with mixture of Paris polyphylla Smith var.yunnanensis, asarum powder and ginger juice, while the treatment group in the Yang group were treated externally with mixture of Paris polyphylla Smith var.yunnanensis, borneol and white vinegar. The changes of lymph nodes were observed in the abovementioned groups according to the standards for diagnosis and curative effect of Chinese medical symptom. The local symptoms, compared before and after the treatment, together with the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and the diameter of lymph node was used to determine the indications and curative effect of Paris polyphylla Smith var.yunnanensis with antituberculosis drugs in the treatment of tuberculous lymphadenitis. Results: Eventually,127 cases were enrolled in the study,13 cases dropped out and 4 cases were excluded. There were 33 cases in the treatment group with Yang syndrome, including 13 males and 20 females, with age(33.32±13.75).There were 31 cases in the control group with Yang syndrome, including 10 males and 21 females, with age(35.31±12.67).There were 30 cases in the treatment group with Yin syndrome, including 13 males and 17 females, with age(35.31±12.67).There were 33 cases in the observation group with Yin syndrome, including 14 males and 19 females, with age(33.54±13.56).The data of the above-mentioned four groups were comparable. There was no significant difference in gender, age, symptoms, the diameter of lymph node and erythrocyte sedimentation rate before treatment(P > 0.05),which were comparable. In the Yang group after treatment, the incidence of swelling, pain, redness and burning fever in the treatment group was significantly lower than the control group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in the incidence of fluctuation(P>0.05).The difference of the diameter of lymph node and the difference of erythrocyte sedimentation rates were statistically significant(P<0.05).As for the Yin group after treatment, the incidence rates in the treatment group and the control group had a statistically significant difference by the Chi-square test(P<0.05).The difference of the diameter of lymph node and the difference of erythrocyte sedimentation rates were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions: The external application of Paris polyphylla Smith var.yunnanensis powder combined with anti-tuberculosis drugs is curative in the observation of superficial tuberculous lymphadenitis.
