Aim:This study aimed to assess the pressure pain threshold(PPT)and thermal sensory thresholds of the gingival between normal person and patients with simple gingivitis and to help diagnose the disease and evaluate the treatment results on the basis of clinical examination.Materials and methods:22 patients with simple gingivitis and 22 normal person age from 20 to 30 years old were recruited from Periodontics Department,Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology,Nanjing Medical University. The Visual Analogue Scales(VAS),gingival index(GI)and plaque index(PLI)scores of all the subjects were recorded and quantitative sensory testing(QST)was produced.PPT,cold detection threshold(CDT),warmth detection threshold(WDT),cold pain threshold(CPT)and heat pain threshold(HPT)of the attached gingival of two lower lateral incisors between two groups and the PPT of the two teeth from vertical and lateral directions were tested and analyzed. All the test projects were tested for three times and then taken an average for analysis. Results:There were no differences between the two groups of the value of VAS(P>0.05).GI and PLI of the gingivitis group were significantly higher than healthy subjects(P<0.01).In the gingivitis group,PPT of gingival was significantly lower than that in the control group(P=0.016),CDT of gingival was lower than healthy subjects had significant difference(P=0.027),WDT(P=0.021)was significantly higher,There were no differences between the two groups of HPT and CPT(P>0.05).Conclusion:The gingival in the gingivitis group was more sensitive to pressure and less sensitive to cold, warm and heat stimulation compared to the control group, which can help us to diagnose the disease and evaluate the treatment results on the basis of clinical examination.
