Objective:The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and factors associated with readmission after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Methods:The clinical data of 350 patients with gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy in Zhongda hospital between January 2013 and December 2016 was collected.Univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed to determine the risk factors for readmission. Results:Readmission to the hospital within 30 days occurred in 9.42%(33 of 350).The most common reasons for readmission were gastrointestinal complications and infections.Univariate analysis identified preexisting diabetes, preexisting hypertension, preoperative anemia,NRS2002score,type of resection, history of a postoperative complication, the date of enteral nutrition as risk factors for readmission. On the basis of multivariate logistic regression analysis. The independent factors associated with a higher 30-day unplanned readmission rate included preexisting diabetes(23.42%,P= 0.001),NRS2002score? 3(14.63%,P= 0.046),history of a postoperative complication(26.67%,P= 0.002)and early enteral nutrition is the protective factor for readmission.Factors not associated with a higher readmission rate included advanced age, gender, preexisting coronary heart disease,BMI(Body Mass Index),time of operation, blood loss, reconstruction type of digestive tract, the site of tumor and pathological stage of tumor. Conclusion:Readmission after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer is common.Patients with diabetes,NRS2002score? 3,those who suffer postoperative complications are at especially high risk for readmission.Early enteral nutrition is the protective factor for readmission after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
