Purpose:Our study research the change of ST2 and brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)during the thoracic radiation period as well as the correlation between biomarkers and heart dosimetric parameters in order to prove whether cardiac biomarkers can detect early cardiac damage or screen people at high risk for potential heart damage.Methods:Thirty-five patients enrolled in our study underwent ST2 and BNP measurement before RT(T1),in the middle(T2)and at the end of RT(T3),echocardiography before(T1)and at the end(T3)of RT.Use a two-sample wilcoxon rank test to examine the change of ST2 and BNP between T2 and T1,T3 and T1 groups.LVEF also be analyzed in the same method,(p<0.05)Normalized ST2(ST2n)and normalized BNP(BNPn)was calculated.Different in ST2(ST2d)and BNP(BNPd)was calculated. The correlation of cardiac biomarker and radiation parameters were measured by Spearman's correlation test.Results:Twenty-nine patients are male in our study account for 82.9%of the whole patients as well as the female are only six patients account for 17.1%.ST2 and BNP increased between T1 and T2(P<0.05),but did not change between T3 and T1(P>0.05).There were only twenty-four patients undergo echocardiography,LVEF have decreased significantly(64.58%±4.26 VS 61.75%± 5.19,P=0.023).ST2 and BNP in T3 group did not correlate with heart dosimetric parameters, only ST2 T3n and ST3d have correlation with V5?V10?V20?V30?V40 of heart and mean dose of heart,LV and LAD.Conclusions:Thoracic radiation would lead to the left heart function damage, and ST2 has increased during the radiation period. The change of ST2 may correlate with V5?V10?V2O?V30?V40 of heart and mean dose of heart,LV and LAD.At the same time ST2 could be regarded as a sensitive biomarker for early RT related heart damage or subclinical heart disease.
