Objective To explore the influence and psychological experience of inflammatory bowel disease on patients' marriage,sexual life and fertility using descriptive qualitative study.Methods Purposive sampling and the maximum variation strategy were used to select inflammatory bowel disease patients from an inflammatory bowel disease center of a Grade Three Level A hospital in Hangzhou as participants.Semi-structured interviews were conducted,data were analyzed using the conventional content analysis method,and the themes were extracted through coding,classifying and refining.The sample size was determined based on the principle of theme saturation.Results The following themes were obtained after analysis:the influence of inflammatory bowel disease on marriage,including the impact on the choice of marriage and the impact on the couple's relationship;the influence of inflammatory bowel disease on sexual life,including a reduction of sexual life frequency and sexual enjoyment,the influencing factors of sexual life were as below:disease symptoms,examination,treatment and patients'psychological conceems;the influence of inflammatory bowel disease on fertility,including the impact on fertility plan,conception mode,the second child birth decision and mode of delivery.Conclusions Inflammatory bowel disease has different degree of influences on patient's marriage,fertility and sexual life.In foture clinical work,the disease information should be popularized and disease education strengthened so as to let people have a correct understanding of inflarmatory bowel disease,the social support for patients with inflaumatory bowel disease should be improved and patient's sexual life and fertility needs be paid attention to so as to improve the patients' quality of life.
