Objective:To apply high frequency ultrasound to analyze the sonographic features of the different seniority sonologists' carpal tunnel and to explore the clinical applicability of high frequency ultrasound in sonologists' chronic injury of carpal tunnel.Method:60 cases of more than five years' seniority sonologists were selected as the test group and another 60 cases of normal health as the control group respectivelymatching their age groups, sexes and habits. The high frequency unltrasound wasapplied to measure the cross-sectional areas of the median nerve(MN)at pisiform level, the thickness of the carpal transverse ligament(C TL)at harmate level and the width and the thickness of the flexor pollical longus tendon(FPL),the second deep flexor tendon(D2)and the third superficial flexor(S3)on the left and right carpals. The 60 cases were divided on the basis of seniority into 5-10 year group,11-20 year group and plus 20 year group.Comparisons were made respectively by their MN cross-sectional areas of the right carpal(working carpal),their CTL thickness and their D2 and S3 width and thickness. Results:There was no obvious diversity in all the values related to the left carpals in the test group and the left and right carpals in control group(?> 0.05).However,there existed certain diversities in all the values related to the right carpals(working carpals),which provides statistical significances(? < 0.05).Among the different test groups based on seniority,in comparison between >20 year group and 5-10 year group, there are obvious diversities in the width and sickness of FPL and D2(? <0.05).Conclusion:High frequency ultrasound clearly reveals the carpal internal tissues.By making their quantitative measurements,we can determine the obvious relation between the sonologists' occupational seniority and their injury of carpal tunnel. Therefore,we should enhance our consciousness of the prevention against high seniority sinologists' CTS.
