Objective: To examine the effects of antenatal nutritional assessment and intervention via WeChat on Caesarean Section. Methods: From October 22 nd 2015 to August 30 th 2017,800 first time singleton pregnant women, who were registered in antenatal clinic in our hospital, have no severe comorbidities and a normal body mass index(BMI,18.5~23.9),were randomly divided into Intervention Group(n = 400)and Control Group(n = 400).All subjected participated regularly in the education and information session in the pregnancy school. In addition, the Intervention Group received nutritional assessment and initial nutritional intervention during 12 to 16 weeks of pregnancy, and individualized information sharing and nutritional guidance via WeChat from the 17 th week of pregnancy.Out of 400 subjects,355 and 346 completed follow-up in Intervention Group and in Control Group respectively with 26 or 19 subjects removed from the study and 31 or 23 lost to follow-up in either Group.Data on BMI before pregnancy, rate of Large for Gestational Age(LGA)and premature babies, pregnancy diabetes and hypertension and Caesarean Section were collected and compared between two groups. Results: The rate of Caesarean Section is significantly lower in Intervention Group(25.3%)than that in in Control Group(34.4%)(P<0.05).The rate of LGA babies is lower in Intervention Group(4.3%)than that in Control Group(8.4%)(P<0.05).Conclusions It appears that nutritional assessment and initial nutritional intervention in early pregnancy, plus individualized information sharing and nutritional guidance, can reduce the rate of LGA babies and therefore the rate of Caesarean Section.
