Purpose: To observe the short-term fluctuation and the effects of cataract and age on pulsar perimetry with octopus 600.Methods: The participants were classified into two groups: norm controls and cataracts.A total of 48 eyes(48 normal controls)were recruited from staff members, graduate students and volunteers from the affiliated hospital of Qingdao University(from July 2015 to July 2016),all participants underwent different three times pulsar perimetry in a different day within one week period. The differences of the Mean Sensitivity,Mean Defect and the test time were analyzed by analysis of variance, and there was statistically significant with p<0.05.The normal controls could be divided into three age groups:below 30 years,30 to 40 years old and over the age of 40 years. In the first test, the effect of age on Mean Sensitivity,Mean Defect and the test time were observed by linear regression analysis, and there was statistically significant with p<0.05.The other group included 26 patients(32 eyes)with cataract from the affiliated hospital of Qingdao University(from July 2015 to July 2016),all patients have been underwent the cataract phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation, and pulsar perimetry were tested before the surgery and 12 days after the surgery, and the changes of the Mean Sensitivity,Mean Defect and the test time were analyzed by paired t test, and there was statistically significant with p<0.05.Results: In the normal groups, the change of the Mean Sensitivity was not found in three pulsar perimetry tests(p=0.706),and also the Mean Defect was not found different(p=0.733),however the pulsar perimetry test time was shorter(p=0.08).The relationships of the age and the Mean Sensitivity,Mean Defect, the test time were not found in the first pulsar perimetry test,p(MS)= 0.072,p(MD)= 0.165,p(test time)=0.626.In cataract groups, the Mean Sensitivity after surgery was significantly higher than before(p<0.01),and the Mean Defect after surgery was lower than before(p<0.01),and the test time after surgery was shorter than before(p<0.01).And the Mean Defect decreased with increasing Mean Sensitivity in all of pulsar perimetry tests. Conclusion: The pulsar perimetry did not show significant short-term fluctuation in normal groups, but the test time was shorter with increasing test times, the pulsar perimetry was significant related to cataract, and was no obvious related to age.
