The Revision Of Multiple Ability Self-Report Questionnaire And Using In Epilepsy

ObjectiveTo translate the English version of Multiple Ability Self-Report Questionnaire(MASQ)into Chinese and examine the reliability and validity of Chinese version MASQ among patients with epilepsy.We also want to investigate the status of cognitive function among patients with epilepsy and identify it's influence factors.MethodDuring October 2015 to May 2016,we translated English version of Multiple Ability Self-Report Questionnaire(MASQ)into Chinese,modify it considerring the China cultural background,and then translated it into English to assure a valid translation,invited experts to revise the content of the scale.Using Chinese version MASQ to investigate 200 epilepsy patients in a hospital of Tianjin to verify the reliability and validity.Reliability was established by calculating test-retest reliability and Cronbach's alpha coefficient of this scale.The validity of Chinese version of the MASQ was presented by content validity,criterion-related validity and construct validity(confirmatory factor analysis).This study was conducted in Tianjin Medical University General Hospital involving 220 epilepsy patients.Using unified questionnaires,include Sociodemographic and clinical information sheet to collect the general and clinical information of patients,and using hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS),general well-being schedule(GWB),social support rating scale(SSRS)and quality of life in epilepsy-31(QOLIE-31)to investigate the emotion of anxiety and depression,general well-being,social support and quality of life of epilepsy patients.Using univariate analyses to compare the cognitive function in different groups and using the continuous variables to test the Spearman correlation coefficient.Exploring the independent factors by applying multiple linear regression with stepwise procedure.Result1.The introduction of Chinese MASQ: After translating MASQ into Chinese,the investigator amended it taking the cultural background in China into consideration.The Chinese version of MASQ consist of 37 items which divide in to five dimensions.The Cronbach's a coefficient of the Chinese version of Multiple Ability Self-Report Questionnaire was 0.948,the Cronbach's acoefficient of five dimensions were 0.902,0.797,0.733,0.893 and 0.848,test-retest reliability of MASQ Was 0.960 and the test-retest reliability of five dimensions was 0.866?0.860?0.850?0.899?0.841 respectively.Content validity index of every item(CVI)was over 0.80,CVI of the whole consistency and the average was 0.98.MASQ was negatively correlative with QOLIE-31(r=-0.732,P < 0.001),positively correlative with HADA and HADD(r=0.590?0.524,P<0.001).The confirmatory factor analysis(CFA)indicated that the values of CMIN/ DF,GFI,AGFI,RMR,RESEA,NFI,IFI,TLI,CFI,PGFI were 2.155,0.879,0.902,0.045,0.076,0.881,0.869,0.856,0.868,0.636 respectively,the standardized were 0.33~0.93.2.The application of Chinese MASQ: 220 questionnaires screened in the study.The overall score of MASQ of persons with epilepsy was 48~135 and the average score was(87.86±19.30).The score of language was(16.95±5.66),the score of visual-perceptual ability was(12.29±3.70),the score of verbal memory was(20.40±5.09),the score of visual-spatial memory was(20.50±3.57),the score of attention/concentration was(17.74±4.58).When multiple linear regression analysis was performed in epilepsy patients,age(?=-4.318),education(?=-1.000),anxiety(?=3.645),general well-being(?=0.379),social support(?=-0.504)and quality of life(?=-1.023)were significant predictors of fatigue which explained 62.4% of the variance.ConclusionsIn this study,we translated English version of Multiple Ability Self-Report Questionnaire(MASQ)into Chinese and verify it's reliability and validity.It turned out that Chinese-version of MASQ showed excellent reliability and validity and could used to evaluate the cognitive function of epilepsy patients in China.We found that age,education,anxiety,general well-being,social support and quality of life were important influence factors of cognitive function of epilepsy patients.Our study suggest effective control of seizure and early diagnosis and management of mood disorders,improve the level of general well-being and social support were essential elements in the management of epilepsy patients cognition.
