Objective:There were few research about the influence of collagen gene variations on recurrence rate after lumbar discectomy,especially in Chinese people,which result in ambiguous outcomes.This study was conducted to explore the relationship between gene polymorphism of COL9A2(Collagen type 9,alpha 2)and the postoperative recurrence rate of lumbar disc degeneration.Methods:146 patients with lumbar disc degeneration receiving surgery from January 2013 to June 2014 in our hospital were divided into two groups: recurrence group contained 74 patients(39 males,35 females,mean age,49.8 years)had experienced relapse after the first surgery for 24 months,the other group contained 72 patients(38 males,34 females,mean age,49.7 years)without relapse after the first surgery for 24 months.Peripheral blood samples were collected by postoperative follow-up after informed consent,and samples were analyzed by restriction fragment length polymorphism.Results:(1)The Bsm F1 digest gave different results: In the group of patients with relapse 71 cases were type without allele Trp,3 cases were heterozygous type with allele Trp;In the group of patients without relapse 68 cases were type without allele Trp,4 cases were heterozygous type with allele Trp.(2)The BceA1 digest gave different results: In the group of patients with relapse,10 cases were homozygous type of Arg(Arg/Arg),54 cases were homozygous type of Gln(Gln/Gln),10 cases were heterozygous type of(Arg/Gln);In the group of patients without relapse 2 cases were homozygous type of Arg(Arg/Arg),58 cases were homozygous type of Gln(Gln/Gln),12 cases were heterozygous type of(Arg/Gln).(3)Homozygosity of the Arg allele seems to occur more frequently in recurrent group(P=0.031).Conclusion:Our results indicate that gene polymorphisms of COL9A2 were associated with early risk of recurrence among Chinese population with lumbar disc herniation.
