Objective :Extensive evidence indicates that serum s E-cadherin is a critical regulator which is involved in various types of diseases pathologies.Chronic Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is the leading cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality worldwide.Currently, more than 240 million people are sufferinging with chronic hepatitis B,among that almost 25% will die from the liver-related complications. The overall goal of the study is to get a better insight into whether or not serum s E-cadherin is involved in HBV-related diseases.Design and methods :Serum levels of s E-cadherin and IFN-?,from113 patients with chronic hepatitis B,101 patients with HBV-related cirrhosis,75 patients with hepatocellualar carcinoma and 125 healthy individuals were measured with commercial available sandwich ELISA kits. The correlation between the levels of serum s E-cadherin and INF-?and the HBV-related liver diseases was analyzed by SPSS19.0 software. Results : s E-cadherin values were significantly higher in patients compared to healthy control(p<0.0001).The levels of serum s E-cadherinwere significantly positively correlated with the serum levels of IFN-?,alanine transaminase and aspartate aminotransferase in chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis patients. In hepatocellualar carcinoma patients, serum s E-cadherin concentrations were only significantly positively correlated with the serum levels of ALT and AST.Conclusions:Serum s E-cadherin levels maybe an important indicator of the pathogenesis of progression of HBV-related disorders.
