The Impact Of Selenium Supplementation Therapy On The TPO-Ab Levels And Serum Oxidative Stress In Patients With Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Objective To observe the impact of selenium supplementation therapy on the TPO-Ab levels and serum oxidative stress(MDA,GPx,SOD)in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.Methods 79 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were randomly divided into trial group(n =44)and placebo group(n=35).The trial group was given sodium selenite(1mg/d),and the placebo group was given placebo.The double-blind treatment time was 24 weeks.The serum TPO-Ab levels and oxidative stress(MDA,GPx,SOD)of two groups were detected before and after treatment.Results(1)TPO-Ab Titers:After the treatment of 12 weeks and 24 weeks,TPO-Ab of the trial group decreased significantly(P<0.05).Otherwise,the placebo group has little changes(P>0.05).In the trial group,according to the TPO-Ab titers(200? IU/ml,200-500 IU/ml and?500 IU/ml),after the treatment of 24 weeks,TPO-Ab titers decreased from 20.67% to 29.98% at there sub-group.The group of whitch TPO-Ab ?200 IU/ml had the most obvious decline by 29.98%.According to the course of disease(?1yea,1-5years and >5years),TPO-Ab titers decreased from 16.08% to 26.63% at any sub-group.The group of whitch the course?1 year had the most obvious decline by 26.63%.Those patients with lower antibody titers and short courses had the better effection.(2)The Oxidative Stress:In the trial group,the level of MDA was significantly decreased after 12 and 24 weeks.And the levels of GPx,SOD increased in the trial group after 24 weeks.However,the placebo group has little changes.Compared with the placebo group,the oxidative stress of trial group decreased.There was significantly positive correlation between MDA and TPO-Ab(r=0.515,P=0.000).A negative correlation was between SOD and TPO-Ab(r=-0.305,P=0.044).There was no obvious correlation between GPx and TPO-Ab.Conclusion Selenium supplementation can reduce the level of TPO-Ab titers and oxidative stress of the patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis,especially for those patients with lower antibody titers and short courses.There was a correlation between TPO-Ab and serum oxidative stress.
