Objective: To discuss the efficacy of alpha-lipoic acid combined with tamoxifen citrate in the treatment of patients with oligoasthenospermia. Methods: From June to November in 2016,60 patients with oligoasthenospermia treated in the Department of Andrology in the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University were randomly divided into two groups,Group A(30 cases)and Group B(30 cases). The former was given alpha-lipoic acid,0.6g,qd,with tamoxifen citrate,20 mg,qd for oral medication. The latter took L-carnitine,1g once, bid, with tamoxifen citrate,20 mg,qd orally. Before and after the treatment of 3 months, semen parameters and seminal oxidative stress biomarkers were detected, including Methylenedioxyamphetamine(MDA)and Total antioxidants capacity(TAC).Side effects and pregnant rate were also observed. Results: 57 patients completed all treatment,Group A(28 cases)and Group B(29 cases).Compared to pre-treatment,the index of semen volume, spermatozoa density, prorsad spermatozoa rate, seminal plasma TAC and MDA were both obviously improved in Group A and Group B(P < 0.05).Group A was superior to Group B in improving seminal plasma TAC(P <0.05)and there was no significant difference between the two groups(P >0.05).The comparison of percentage of normal sperm morphology in both groups showed no statistically significant differences(P > 0.05).After the treatment of 3 months, there are 3 cases of pregnant in Group A and 1 case in Group B.There were no side effects in all test patients during the treatment. Conclusions: Alpha-lipoic acid combined with tamoxifen citrate can improve the seminal quality parameters of oligoasthenospermia patients by evidently improving oxidative stress injury, which might be safe and effective.
