Objective: To discuss the relationship and prognosis between the location of arteriovenous malformation(AVM)and postoperative epilepsy control.Method: The location and type of epilepsy in children with AVM hospitalized in Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University during from 2013.01 to 2015.12 were collected and Engle classification was used to evaluate the prognosis of patients with epilepsy.Result: A total of 125 children with AVM were enrolled in this study.Among them, there were 75 male and 50 female patients with the average age of 12.57 year. There were 61(40.9%)lesions located in the frontal lobe,27(18.1%)lesions in the temporal lobe,24(16.1%)lesions in the parietal lobe,24(16.1%)lesions in the occipital lobe(16.8%),2 lesions in the ganglion region,5(3.4%)lesions in the corpus callosum and 5(3.4%)lesions in the cerebellum.Five patients with AVM presented with seizures initially. The poor recovery was observed in 8 patients(9.4%).Conclusion: Incidence of epilepsy was similar in pediatric and adult population with AVM.AVM located in frontal and temporal lobe had the highest incidence of epilepsy. There was no significant relationship between lesion location and epilepsy control. |
