Plastic bone repairing materials, which can match any shape of bone defects, have significant values in clinical therapies. In this thesis, injectable and putty-like gelatin/hydroxyapatite(HA)composite materials were designed and studied targeting bone repairing.Initially, gelatin was functionalized by reacting with methacrylic anhydride to introduce photocurable unsaturated double bonds at different degrees. The the functionalized gelatins were mixed with nanoscaled or microscaled HA to obtain the injectable or putty-like gelatin/HA composites. With the incorporation of HA components, the resulting composites demonstrated lower swelling ratio, smaller pore size, rougher pore wall surface, and higher compressive modulus, etc.,along with the higher addition amounts of HA.Assessed by cell culture, these gelatin/HA composites were confirmed having good biocompatibility and no obvious cytotoxicity. On the other hand,in this thesis,a kind of photoluminescent compound(CECA)was synthesized from the reaction of L-cysteine ethyl ester(CE)with citric acid(CA).Then gelatin was functionalized with this CECA to endow gelatin with photoluminescent feature.Afterwards,CECA functionalized gelatin was blended with polylactide(PLA)or ploy(lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA),and electrospun for the purpose to carry out hydrolysis studies,in which, the feasibility of using the photoluminescent feature of gelatin to monitor the degradation of PLA/gelatin and PLGA/gelatin composites was primarily investigated.
