Comparison Of Two Methods Of Caries Excavation On Effectiveness In Relieving Dental Fear Of Children And Short-term Success Rate Of Restoration

[Objective]: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of two caries excavation methods in relieving children's dental fear and short-term success Rate of Restoration,so as to search for a caries-excavation method that could relieve children's dental fear as well as excavate caries effectively.[Methods]: 30 children aged 5-8 years were recruited in the study. By Split-mouth design, 110 decayed contralateral primary teeth scored 5 of ICDAS index were randomly devided into two groups: experimental group-excavating caries with Carisolv;control group-excavating caries with rotary instrument. Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale (MCDASf) Chinese version was used to assess children's dental fear. Venham' s clinical rating of anxiety and cooperative behavior scale was used to assess the children's anxiety. USPHS clinical evaluation criteria for restoration were used to assess short-term success rate of restoration. The Mann-Whitney analysis and chi-square analysis were used to analyze data.[Results]: (1) The result of the Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale Chinese version showed that, compared to rotary instrument, excavating caries with Carisolv could reduce children's dental fear (p< 0.01). (2) The result of Venham' s clinical ratings of anxiety and cooperative behavior scale showed that, compared to rotary instrument,excavating caries with Carisolv could reduce children's anxiety rate (p < 0.01). (3) The result of USPHS clinical evaluation criteria for restoration showed that, 6 months after restoration, the success rate of restoration in the two groups was of no statistical difference. p > 0.05).[Conclusion]: Caries-excavation with Carisolv could relieve children's dental fear and excavate caries effectively. It is worth recommended for clinical application.
