Objective:We explored possible involvement and clinical relevance of homocysteine(HCY),interleukin-6(IL-6)and C reactive protein(CRP)in aortic dissection by measuring their concentrations in serum of aortic-dissection patients.Methods:1.Subjects were from the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical University(Jan,2014 to Jul,2015).In total,63 aortic-dissection patients(Group AD),62 primary-hypertension patients(Group PH)and 60 normal and control subjects(Group NC)were included.2.Serum concentrations of HCY,IL-6 and CRP in each subject were measured with enzymatic cycling assay(ECA),enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)and immunoturbidimetry(ITB)respectively.Results:1.Serum HCY was significantly higher in AD(20.760±9.320 ?M,P<0.05)than in PH(14.830±10.595 ?M)and NC(10.795±4.753 ?M).Logistic regression analysis showed that HCY was higher in AD than PH with OR = 1.315(95% CI,1.113,1.553)and higher in PH than NC with OR = 1.201(95% CI,1.096,1.316).Further pair-wised Bonferroni analysis on HCY-rank revealed that HCY was highest in AD,followed by PH and lowest in NC,indicating the risk of aortic dissection is positively correlated with serum HCY in hypertension-patients.2.Serum IL-6 was significantly higher in AD(11.450±3.740 pg/ml,P<0.05)than in PH(3.690±2.468 pg/ml)and NC(3.420±2.063 pg/ml).Logistic regression analysis showed that HCY was higher in AD than PH with OR = 6.563(95% CI,2.341,18.401).Difference between PH and NC was not significant with OR = 1.071(95% CI,0.814,1.408).3.Serum CRP was significantly higher in AD(12.950±5.110 ?g/mL,P<0.05)than in PH(1.520±0.790 ?g/mL)and NC(1.220±0.508 ?g/mL).Conclusion:1.Serum HCY is higher in AD than both PH and NC.HCY is a risk factor of aortic dissection.2.Serum IL-6 and CRP are higher in AD than both PH and NC while not different betwen PH and NC.As IL-6 and CRP are important immuno inflammatory factors,their elevation in AD indicates possible involvement of vascular inflammation in aortic-dissection pathgensis.3.Elevation of HCY,IL-6 and CRP are closely related to pathogenesis of aortic dissection.Our study provides evidence for early intervention against aortic dissection by targetting HCY and vascular inflammation in clinic practice.
