Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of the AECOPD with diabetes mellitus. Methods: Through reviewing clinical data of 18 cases AECOPD with diabetes(study group)and 21 cases AECOPD without diabetes(control group)admitted to the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2012 to January 2017.Results:There are 39 patients with AECOPD which include 18 AECOPD with DM and 21 AECOPD without DM.Sex and age in two groups are no differences(P>0.05).There are indiscrimination between the groups in the comparison of CRP,PaO2,PaCO2,FEV1%,number of antibiotic and bronchodilator, utilization rate of theophylline, inhaled corticosteroid and intravenous glucocorticoid(P>0.05).Both two groups of patients are all improved after treatment. The hospital stay and cost of study group are more than control group's(P<0.05).The utility time of antibiotic in study group are longer than control group's(P<0.05).There are 5 patients with respiratory failure and 3 patients with heart failure in study group. In the study group, there are 7 patients with more than 2 exacerbations in the past year,38.9% of study group patients. There are only 1 patient with respiratory failure and no one with heart failure in study group. In the control group, there is only 1 patient with more than 2 exacerbations in the past year,4.8% of study group patients in the control group.so,in the study group, the rate of patients more than 2 exacerbations in the past year is higher(P<0.05).Conclusions:The AECOPD with DM has following clinical characteristics:(1)More hospital stay and cost;(2)More utility time of antibiotic;(3)Higher risk of leading to hospital admission;(4)Hihger risk of leading to respiratory failure or heart failure.
