Objective:.Comparative analysis of the short-term efficacy of oral Traditional Chinese Medicine and retinal laser photocoagulation in the treatment of macular edema after vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Methods: Forty-one patients(66 eyes)with macular edema after vitrectomy were enrolled in the Department of Ophthalmology,Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2015 to January 2017.According to whether or not Chinese medicine treatment was divided into Chinese medicine group 20(32 eyes)and control group(34 eyes),followed by at least 3 months.Chinese medicine group taking Traditional Chinese Medicine(Astragalus,American ginseng, angelica, habitat,Sanqi,Poria,Alisma)free fried particles, treatment for 15 days a course of treatment,a total of two courses. The control group was treated with multi-wavelength fundus krypton laser.Review and record the general health status of patients before and after admission.Best Practicaled Visual Acuity(BCVA),Intraocular Pressure(IOP),and Central Macular Thickness(CMT)were measured.Observed 3 months,in 15 days,1,2,3 months to monitor the data.Using the statistical software SPSS17.0 software, two independent experimental samples were used to compare the two groups of experimental basis, and the difference of curative effect before and after treatment was evaluated. Results:The Chinese medicine group before treatment the average baseline BCVA(Log MAR)1.13 + 0.42,15 d,1Mo,2Mo after treatment, the average 3Mo BCVA(Log MAR)for(0.99 + 0.48),(0.92 + 0.53),(0.82 + 0.51),(0.79 + 0.53);compared with the baseline BCVA.After treatment, there was significant increase in BCVA.The Chinese medicine group of patients before treatment, median baseline CMT was 531 m,15 d,1Mo,2Mo after treatment, the median of 3mo CMT were 445 m,394 m,389 m,375 m;compared with the baseline level of CMT decreased after treatment were statistically significant. The control group preoperative mean baseline BCVA(Log MAR)1.17 + 0.34,after 15 d,1Mo,2Mo,3Mo,BCVA(Log MAR)for the average(1.06 + 0.38),(1.01 + 0.36),(0.93 + 0.39),(0.84 + 0.43);compared with the preoperative baseline BCVA.The postoperative BCVA improvement were statistically significant. The control group of patients before treatment, median baseline CMT was 527 m,after 15 d,1Mo,2Mo,3Mo CMT,the medians were 470 m and 435 m,407 m,391 m;compared with the baseline level of CMT decreased after treatment were statistically significant. There were significant differences in BCVA and CMT between the two groups at the same time points. There was no significant difference between the traditional Chinese medicine group and the control group. There was no significant difference in BCVA,CMT and IOP between the preoperative and postoperative eyes of the study eyes.No local and systemic complications associated with treatment were found during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Traditional Chinese Medicine can promote the absorption of macular edema in patients with DME,significantly improve the patient's vision and reduce the loss of follow-up vision.Treatment of DME with Traditional Chinese Medicine had no effect on VA and CMT in non-treated eyes.Traditional Chinese Medicine short-term efficacy of reliable,long-term efficacy to be further observed.
