Background The National Institutes of Health(NIH)have divided into four types of prostatitis, and type ? chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome(CP/CPPS)which was divided into ?A(inflammatory CPPS)and ?B(non inflammatory CPPS).The etiology of CP/CPPS was complex and the mechanism and pathophysiology wasn't clear so that we have no standard treatment options. And its treatment was also converted to improve symptoms. Objective To investigate the efficacy of combined horse chestnut seed extract to treat ? B prostatitis(non inflammatory CPPS).Methods A total of 71 patients with the ?B prostatitis between August 2015 and June 2016 at our institution.A randomized, parallel clinical trial was designed, all patients were randomized to 2 groups, including observation group(Horse chestnut seed extract with Alpha blockers and Chinese patent medicine;n=34)and control group(Alpha blockers and Chinese patent medicine;n=37).All patients were evaluated the data of National Institute of Health-chronic pelvic pain syndrome index(NIH-CPSI)and inflammatory factor(include interleukin-8 and Tumor necrosis factor-?)of expressed prostatic secretious(EPS).The data were compared to get the curative effect after 4 weeks. The differences between groups were compared by t test, and the results were compared with rank sum test.Results1.The NIH-CPSI score and the levels of IL-8 and TNF-? in EPS after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment in the two groups(P<0.05).2.The NIH-CPSI score and the levels of IL-8,TNF-? in EPS of patients in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group after treatment(P<0.05).3.The changes before and after treatment of the NIH-CPSI score and the levels of IL-8,TNF-? in EPS of patients in the observation group decreased more than those in the control group(P<0.05).4.The clinical effect of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Combined medication treatment with horse chestnut seed extract can achieve better effectiveness in symptom improvement and clinical curative effect.
