Objectives:To investigate the risk factors related to cytomegalovirus(CMV)infection after sibling allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-HSCT)in thalassemia major.Method:Thalassemia patients received sibling allo-HSCT from July,2007 to January,2017 were enrolled in this sutdy for retrospective analysis. The CMV infection rate, median time of CMV infection occurence, and risk factors related to CMV infection were all analyzed.Data including sex, age, level of serum ferritin before allo-HSCT,liver size, human leukocyte antigen(HLA)match, source of stem cell, dosge of antithymocyte globulin(ATG)in conditioning regeimen, acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease(GVHD),bacterial and fungal infection after HSCT,and time of neutropenia were brought into analysis of risk factors to CMV infection.Result:A total number of 233 patients were enrolled including 160 male patients and 73 female patients, and median age was 4.5(1.5-19)years old.The incidence of CMV infection was 25.8%(60/233),and 98.3%(59/60)of CMV infection occured within 100 days after allo-HSCT.Median time of first CMV viremia was 30(7-114)days after allo-HSCT.Univariate analysis showde that sexand stem source were associated with CMV infection.Females had a higher CMV infection rate than males(40.2% vs 19.5%,P=0.001,?2=10.226).Umbilical cord blood(UCB)combined with bone marrow(BM)transplatation had a higher CMV infection rate compared to peripheral blood(PB)stem cell combined with BM transplatation(37.9% vs 13.5%,P<0.001,?2=17.615).Multivariate analysis also showed that sex and stem cell source were independent risk factors of CMV infection. Conclusion:Female and UCB stem cell were independent risk factors of CMV infection.
