OBJECTIVE:To explore the rules of labial groove-textures and incisal translucency features of young maxillary central incisors, and to verify the clinical utility of digital imaging under front-side incident light.METHODS:PART 11.Maxillary central incisors of 224 young students were included as the subjects of the study. With the assistance of unilateral front-side incident light, the digital image data of labial groove-textures were collected by digital camera.Using image processing software,Nikon Capture NX-D Version 1.3.0,we observed and classified the labial groove-textures and micro perikymata.SPSS 22.0 were used for statistical analysis.PART 22.Maxillary central incisors of 186 young students were included as the subjects of the study. In order to reducing the light spot attached on the surface of teeth, bilateral front-side incident light were adopted.the digital image data of incisal translucency features were collected by digital camera.Using image processing software,Nikon Capture NX-D Version 1.3.0,we observed and classified the incisal translucency features.SPSS 22.0 were used for statistical analysis.Result:1?Vertical and horizontal grooves are showed as continuous sunken grooves on the digital images.According to the distribution of groove-textures in maxillary central incisors, different patterns existed different occurrence rate in the overall samples.Vertical and horizontal grooves were widespread on the surface of young maxillary central incisors,93.97%of maxillary central incisor had two vertical grooves while 70.76%of maxillary central incisors existed horizontal grooves(25.89%with one horizontal groove,36.83%with two horizontal grooves and 8.04%with three horizontal grooves). There were 167 individuals(74.55%)showed high symmetry with the same type of groove between homonymous central incisors. In male, the pattern of the grooves in the maxillary central incisors was highest in type A(with two vertical grooves and two horizontal grooves on the surface, the second horizontal groove was on the cervical half part of the surface),accounted for 29.58%.In female, the grooves in the maxillary central incisors were highest in type A and type B(with two vertical grooves on the surface),both occupied 25.00%.Chi-square test of gender difference showed no statistically significance.2?After pictures enlarging, micro perikymata were found widely existed on the surface of maxillary central incisors and could be divided into three types:deep perikymata, light perikymata and none perikymata.Deep perikymata accounted for the majority. The light perikymata occurred frequently in the middle area, while none perikymata was more common in the incisal area. There was a certain symmetry on types of micro perikymata between homonymous maxillary central incisors in cervical(76.34%),middle(72.32%),incisal(78.57%)and the whole(50.89%)areas.There was statistical significance on micro perikymata type of middle and incisal areas of maxillary central incisors in gender difference.3.In total samples, banded opalescence pattern accounted for 71.50%in maxillary central incisors.Nodule pattern and pectinate pattern accounted for 16.77%and 11.83%,respectively.There were 146 individuals(78.49%)showed the same pattern of incisal translucent between homonymous maxillary central incisors. The highest occurrence rate of incisal translucent pattern was banded opalescence pattern in both male and female,75.00%and 67.44%,respectively.Chi-square test of gender difference showed no statistically significance.Conclusion:1.Groove-textures,micro perikymata and opalescence are widely found in young maxillary central incisors with different shapes. There is a high symmetry between homonymous maxillary central incisors.2.With front-side incident light, digital imaging technology can effectively and easily record groove-textures and incisal translucency features in maxillary central incisors with good operability and clinical utility.
